So here’s the question: how much time needs to pass for something to be considered ‘nostalgic?’ For purposes of this blog, let’s call it a generation, which is something like 20 to 25 years, or in other words, the late 20th century. Let’s look at some of the awesome nostalgic love songs from previous generations that you may want played at your upcoming wedding celebration.
Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers
A huge hit in 1965, it gained more fame after its use in the 1990 movie, “Ghost.”

This 1980 song’s lyrics are exceptionally good, dripping with romance:

A World Without Love by Peter and Gordon
This was the first single released by the British duo, Peter and Gordon in 1964. Guess what? It became a #1 hit. Guess who wrote it? Paul McCartney whose career had exploded with The Beatles. McCartney was only 16 when he wrote it. John Lennon mocked it, and McCartney didn’t think it was good enough for the Beatles, so he gave it to Peter Asher, whose sister Paul was dating at the time. The rest is history. So what became of Peter Asher? He eventually became a manager in the business helping to launch the careers of our final two entries in this list:
How Sweet it is Being Loved by You by James Taylor
James Taylor had a hit with this song in 1975 as did Marvin Gaye in his 1964 recording.
Don’t Know Much by Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt
Such a delightful love song, written by the great husband/wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil (along with Tom Snow) in 1980. The Neville/Ronstadt recording came out in 1989.
